BACKGROUND

Skooldio kicked off an intern-wide hackathon with one challenge:

Develop innovative ideas that lead Skooldio through the AI-Transformation.

We were tasked with creating new services, products, features and/or working methods that leveraged Generative AI. The goal was to strengthen Skooldio in terms of internal operations, content creation or the platform itself, aiming to ensure future business growth and development.

The Challenge

How can we leverage AI to give Skooldio online course learners value beyond training?

  • Help students understand their online course better

  • Create more business impact with online courses for Skooldio

The Solution

SkoolSnap AI gives learners value beyond just watching lessons. When something doesn’t make sense, they can pause the video, crop the confusing part, and get instant explanations, examples, or summaries tailored to that exact moment in the course. It helps them learn faster, stay engaged longer and truly understand what they’re studying.

For Skooldio, this means deeper course completion, higher learner satisfaction and more reasons for users to stay on the platform. Creating long-term business impact without needing to rebuild the courses themselves.

Intuitive Crop to Search

When you’re learning online, some concepts just don’t click right away. Instead of scrambling to look things up, you can now pause the video and drag to crop the exact part you’re confused about. Then you can ask SkoolSnap anything about that exact part, and it helps break things down in a way that clears up your confusion instantly.

Ask AI based on Course Contexts

With context-aware AI, learners can ask anything mid-lesson and get answers tied directly to what they’re studying. No tab-switching, no searching in forums, just quick, relevant explanations that keep them moving forward.

Expand knowledge through Summaries, Explanations & Examples.

Dive deeper whenever you want. SkoolSnap can expand any cropped moment into quick summaries, clearer explanations, or new examples that make the concept click. It turns a single question into a mini learning boost, when you need it.

design approach

We need to turn a moment of confusion into a moment of learning. Instead of letting users lose momentum when something didn’t make sense, we wanted to flip that pain point into a gain point. We can use the complexity of a concept to spark curiousity, by a tool that an give them clarity on what they don’t yet understand.

The solution had to give learners more context without pulling them out of their learning flow. It needs to be quick, easy and instantly helpful. The features need to help them dive deeper with personalized learning, engaging more with the course and gaining stronger knowledge retention.

design decisions

Crop

We landed on the crop interaction as the most natural way for learners to pinpoint exactly what they want to understand. It works seamlessly across both video and slide content, and it keeps the experience quick and easy. With a simple drag of the mouse, users can highlight the exact moment or detail they’re confused about, giving the AI precise context.

Chat

We chose a chat interaction because it mirrors how learners naturally ask questions. When something still doesn’t click, it feels easier to just type it out. Chat gives users a comfortable space to ask follow-ups, get clearer explanations, or explore related ideas in the same way you’d message a friend for help. It keeps things simple and familiar.

Prompt Presets

Some learners know they’re confused but don’t quite know what to ask. Coming up with a question can feel harder than the content itself. So we added prompt presets to make things easier. Summarize, Explain and Give Examples. These 3 options can help users dive deeper instantly without needing to figure out the perfect question first.

outcome

We couldn’t believe it, our idea won the hackathon! It was a great reminder that focused ideas can create meaningful impact when they solve real user problems. Building SkoolSnap AI taught me how to add to an experience without disrupting the existing flow. If we had more time, I’d refine the interactions, test edge cases, and explore smarter prompts, but for now we’ve built a strong foundation. The project also showed us how AI can boost learning in practical, human-centered ways and opened up new directions for how we think about product innovation moving forward.
